Pre Monsoon Pruning - Any ideas ?

Question:I like to create a jungle like effect and let my plants, which include a lot of endemic species, grow wild. I usually prune all the plants on my terrace pre-monsoon. This year, for the past 10 days, every time I take out the shears to commence, I notice new flower buds about to bloom, then I put off pruning. Should I prune nonetheless, or will it not make much of a difference if I wait another 2 weeks, or at any rate until the buds no longer develope? I live in Mumbai. Serious answers please. Thank you.

Answers:
I live in California (near San Francisco) - so I am no expert on plants in Mumbai!!

Generally speaking, one prunes plants in their dormant period ("winter" whenever that may be!). If your plants are putting out buds, they think that it is "spring" or "summer"!!. I say, let them bloom and then cut them back.

If the Monsoons will break your plants, then you may need to do some pre-emergency trimming.

Next "winter" you need to think about cutting your plants back "hard" so that you don't have to make the choice between blossoms and broken branches!!

Good Luck!!
