Is ant killer poisonous to plants?

Question:i have an acer tree and have just noticed that it is covered in ants, although it doesnt look any worse for this,im thinking of sticking some nippon ant powder round the base..Good idea or not ?

Answers:
I think you must have posted this twice.

No, Nippon is borax and sugar and is harmless to plants.

The ants are not really the problem. They are not harming your tree. They are collecting sugar from aphids which are feeding on the sap. Acers have plenty of sap to spare, so the aphids will not harm the tree either.

i get the same problem w/ my tree , I usually spring Ant powder around the base & it takes care of the ants & has never harmed the tree. I also jst sprayed the tree w/ Home Defense spray that u can get from Walmart, Home Depot.. any place that sells garden supplies. It has worked well for me. It's for indoor & outdoors & won't harm animals.
No but ants sure don,t like it.
