I agree. It is a safety feature. You aren't suppose to pull or drive mowers backwards while the blade is spinning. It's a pain, but I guess they want us to keep our toes.
They are all like that. It is a safety feature and I hate it!!
Contrary to popular opinion, it is not a safety feature. What you have to do is let the mower roll a couple of inches without the propel system. What this does it release the drive from the gears on the wheel. Toro has the same problem.
