My pumpkins and watermelons are starting to run. How can I keep them from growing all over my yard?

Question:I have a small area to garden and I'm afraid they will run in my neighbor's yard. Can I move the runners as they grow?

Answers:
I cut them off it keeps them from going all over the place and makes the fruits bigger on what you leave.

Yes, you are move the runners and have those pumpkins in your garden :)
Put them on a leash
Don't know much about watermelons but i know pumpkins can go mad. You can move the runners about to keep them in your space and even clip them off to stop the plant escaping.
u should've grown them on a little hill for each of them..then u could wrap them in a circle..I do that..like apinwheel..still grows great..I also put therm on bricks when they get big cause they get rot laying on wet ground sometimes..alohas
I have decided to just let mine do their own thing this year. You can prune the plants and this is recommended for fewer but larger produce. I have decided to be less controlling and just let everything grow naturally this year. So far I am having good success. I have one separate area where I mixed a variety of seeds and just scattered them willy nilly. Its doing great too! No CHEMICALS period!
You can move them or cut them back. Be sure, if the runners have rooted, to put them down in very moist soil when you move them. Pumpkin vines are prickly, so wear protection for your hands, arms, and legs.

My mother grew a pumpkin vine that was only 5 feet long and had 1 monstrous pumpkin; she removed blooms and kept it cut back so all its effort went into that single HUGE pumpkin.
The last time I grew them, I gave them some chicken wire to climb stretched on a wooden frame and angled about 45 degrees from the plants. The pumpkins developed underneath, off the ground and had really great shapes. The watermelons did pretty well but I was growing the smaller watermelons and picked them as they ripened. I moved after that and haven't grown them since.
Cut off their feet. lol and then they can't run or give them Nike runners because we all know that they are very slow runners...
