Question:The leaves are drying up and falling off. It was not doing well when I acquired it but it is getting worse instead of better despite fertilizing.

Give it a dry day or two, and try and give it a bit of shade. Get some foliar feed, and give it a spray weekly instead of fertilising it. You can also re-pot it into a more suitable mix, or just for a fresh start. If all else fails you'll ned to get a new one, from a different source.
Dipladenia's need a moderate amount of water making sure their roots don't dry out in summer and should be fertilised prior to flowering (late spring) and again at the end of flowering (early winter).
Tropical plants such as dipladenia require little water.
check to see if the pot you have it in has a decent sized drain hole. They like wet feet, but not to be sitting in water. If that isn't the problem then you may want to replant in a potting mix that allows water retention. If the dirt is in poor condition, then the water may be running directly out of the pot with no time for the roots to absorb any water or fertilizer. Good Luck!
i sugjest that you put miricle grow on the base of the plant and let up on the watering a little but but not too much. if the leaves turn a brownish yellow then its getting to much watter.
