I am laying a patio with pavers.?

Question:It has been dry here, and we have rocky, sandy, clay soil (North East Maryland). Should I wet it down before digging or start digging in the dry soil before laying the gravel, sand and then pavers? I guess I am concerned with digging and caving in on the sides.

thanks

Answers:
I don't see the benefit of wetting the soil, unless in your situation it makes it easier to do. I woud think your soil is some what like mine. Mine is mostly clay and cut real crisp. I used rock dust when I did my pavers it was cheaper than sand and packed easily. Did not use gravel. That was 10 years ago and I have had no problems.
