Should I pull it up....?
Question:I have 9 tomato plants in my garden. The tips of the leaves are turning brown on one of them and this morning I found a small worm on the bottom of a tomato on that one bush. Should I get that plant a way from the others? I can't afford anything like sevin dust or other pesticides.
Answers:
I wouldn't pull it up. Just get rid of the worm first off. If you can't afford pesticides, just keep a close watch and remove pests by hand. Here is a page that has common list of tomato plant diseases and pests and what to do about them. It's not Arkansas but the site from Arkansas didn't have much information.
pinch off dead leaves as they pop up. Are they getting enough water? the tomato worm needs to be plucked from each of the plants (where there's one, there's a lot relatively speaking). Avoid pesticides, but you must diligently look for the worms and get rid of them. If possible throw the 'harvested' worms were birds can get them!!
I dusted my plants with chili powder, it has worked so far. It will not harm the plant. If you don't want to handle the worms, you might try sprinkling the chili powder right on them. You can get the cheap jars at Dollar General(2 for $1).
Yes pinch it off then look very closley at every other tomato but if it was me I would move it away from the others
