Boiling water kills them on contact, and you can mix water with washing up detergent too. The latter doesn't kill all of them, and killing the queen ant is needed.
Check your local hardware store for a good ant killer that the soldier ants can carry down to the queen: usually they feed this to her. Once she's gone, the colony dies out.
Try spraying with something like Raid Ant Killer, if that is unsuccessful, might try calling a pro, this is unusual.
