They will eat anything. They're scavengers. Just shoot it and call animal control.
Don't kill the possum in the first place--call a pest removal company or your animal control centre. They will remove it for you and release it in it's own environment!

Any other animal that might eat the dead possum, will likely die. They have humane traps so animal can be relocated. Possums are not the problem. People's garbage is. Pet food left outside will attract lots of critter's. Remove a food source form them and they go away, generally.
I am amazed by this. I cannot believe it is legal to kill them in the first place how rediculously ignorant. As has been said you can trap an animal and move it to another area. Possums love jam sandwiches have trapped many and released them without hurting them in anyway. I have also rescued them from trees we are trying to protect at work. You do not need to poison this animal. Thank goodness that sort of thing is illegal in many places.
i had a pet one about ten years ago.my husband found it as a baby and i was able to tame it down.his favorite food was a hard boiled egg.he loved them!
Try canned cat food. strong odor will help conceal poison.
In my experience, they love just about any kind of cat food or dog food. We have also trapped them live by using peanut butter.
For gawd's sake, don't poison wildlife!
Trap and release elsewhere
DON'T KILL IT! If it is a "nusiance" in your yard you can live trap it and release it elsewhere, or have a pest/animal control officer trap and release it!! If you set out "poison" for it, another animal may likely get into the poison as well! Find another project, this is CRUEL!!
