Curb tree dropped thousands of seeds on my lawn last year. Seedlings sprouting like mad. How to eliminate?
Question:Dont know name of tree (subsequently removed), but seeds were about 1 inch long, oval shaped. I've tried a lawn weed killer (Ace Green Turf Weed & Feed, with 2,4D) but no help. Knowledgable advice requested.
Answers:
Using a granular weed & feed is not the way to go here. It's ok if the weeds are lying plush on the turf. This makes it easier for the herbicide to "stick" to it and do its job.The seedlings, Iam assuming, are sticking up a couple of inches and when the granules hit them they are just rolling off, not doing what they are suppose to be doing. You need to go with a liquid herbicide concentrate such as Ortho's "Weed B Gon Max" for lawn and turf. You can find it at any leading garden center such as Walmart, Home Depot, and Lowes. Mix it up according to the label and spray the seedlings, covering the whole leaf surface. They should start to yellow and wilt over within a week. Hope this answers your question... good luck!

you should stop by a home depot or something so you can get fertilizer to eliminate those suckers!
Take a sample of the tree to your local garden shop. They can help you identify it and figure out how to get rid of it. Some trees die when you chop them down, others grow back. When I volunteered at a nature preserve we girdled some trees to kill them. (tear the bark off the tree all the way around about 2 ft wide) It all depends on what kind of tree it is. If you can pull up the roots, that is certain to kill almost any tree.
sounds like maple seeds ...just keep running them over with the lawn mower... i get them in my yard every year...
ugh, just mow your lawn every week, eventually they will die.
