Not too late... the secret to growing tomatoes is to plant them deep! Put them as deep in the soil as possible... all the way to the first leaf is excellent. Full sun/miracle grow and plenty of water.
Hi tomatoes work best if its after the last frost. So no matter where you live, just check w/ a local gardener or nursery if the last frost has passed.
I find tomatoes work best in full sun for most of the day and shade at night or in morning. & I find that it doesn't much matter when you plant them if they are little plants, but it would if you just had seeds.

Heck no. Tomato plants never start to grow until the weather is real hot. Like this week is the first week it has been warm at night and hot in the day. Your tomatoes will be a day or two later than your neighbors maybe. Get them planted. I haven't got mine yet either. I hope the Kmart still has some.
Hi there...we are zone 5 (5b technically now). You can definitely still plant. You would want full sun and good supply of water until the tomatos turn red...if you water when the plants have red tomatoes the red ones will split. Pick them then water.
Tomatoes are great container plants as well so you could get indeterminate (the less hybridized tomatoes or heirloom type that produce fruit until it is too cold) for example cherry tomato, bloody butcher, yellow pear, cherokee; these could be trellised, caged or trailed over a pot. Determinate tomatoes produce then stop (they have a terminal endpoint to flowering and producing fruit).
Plant tomatoes into the soil deep (put the dirt over the current root line), you can even plant them on an angle...they will grow more roots where ever the stem comes in contact with the ground. This will give them a stronger root base to resist wind, improve production and survive dry periods for a longer time.
It is too late for seeds, but definitely not too late for plants. Tomatoes love the heat. They should be planted in full sun.
