Growing grass in a shadey area?

Question:I live in southern calif And my backyard is surrounded with trees. I cant seem to get grass to grow in the shaded areas and i have tried fescue, ryegrass and have no luck. Does anyone know of an all season grass that can live in the shade and dry temps? thanks alot.

Kentucky bluegrass likes shade and cool nights. I live in the upper midwest where it goes dormant over the winter so I don't know how it does year round. Here's a site for CA turfgrass.
