Growing chikoo seeds?

Question:I recently discovered in the supermarket a fruit called a chikoo, and was wondering if anyone had ever been succesful in growing the seeds from them and if so, what do they look like and do they need special care?

Answers:
Chikoo (also known as Sapodilla or Naseberry) is a tropical plant and needs tropical conditions (warmth all year round, although it doesn't need much humidity). It also gets pretty big, so if you want to grow it in the UK/USA temperate region then it is best grown as a houseplant and then disposed of when too big (or take cuttings and raise a new one). In cool countries/indoors it will never get big enough to flower or fruit but it's still a nice evergreen tree for a large room.

Sow seed in moist compost and keep in a warm room- should germinate in 2-4 weeks.

A friend of mine tells me about the Chikoo trees where she lives in New Delhi ... so if that answers anything for you .!!
