Christmas Catus?

Question:I've had this Christmas Catus for a couple of years and it has only bloomed one time. I would like to to bloom more. Does anyone have any tips on how to get it to bloom, keeping it healthy, and pruning tips? I want to keep this plant as long as I can cause it is from my grandma who past away.

Answers:
The first thing I would do is repot it. If they get rootbound, it is difficult for them to maintain a good soil moisture. Next I would only prune away anything that looks dead or diseased. Don't be suprised if your cactus blooms right after you repot it! It will be celebrating! :) And, although they are called Christmas Cactus, mine usually start showing out about the second week of November, and are actually more of a Thanksgiving Cactus..lol.

It needs a chill period to set blossoms well . 4-6 weeks with <50deg F. Here, in NEast, I just leave it on the porch until late NOV., bringing it in at night, if there's going to be a frost . They bloom better if slightly potbound. If it's very potbound, repotting it now should give it enough time .
