If the branches of my rose bush are starting to turn brown, does that mean they're dying?

Question:I planted them about 2 1/2 months ago. I actually did grow two roses. They were really small, but then the branches started to turn blackish-brown. Does that mean they're dead? I did prune it, and the inside was still green! I thought that was a good sign.

Answers:
Doesn't sound good. It does sound like they are dying. There would still be green inside until they are totally dead. Without knowing more information, I can't give you advice on what went wrong, although sometimes roses just don't do well no matter what you do. Roses are also very susceptible to several different types of diseases.

Make sure it's in a sunny, but not too hot area. I wouldn't fertilize it right away since there was probably fertilizer in the soil that it came in. Keep it watered, but don't drown it. It may have been a poor quality rose, doomed even before you planted it, or, it might not have liked where you put it, or the soil you put it in.

Try to baby it. Cut off the brown and black branches, hopefully you have some green ones left. Good luck.

either that or they're dried up.
