Question:I have 3 water falls in my pond ones broke right now..I have to wait and fix it but this area has standing water..i have 3 dogs does anyone know any safe way to kill them that won't kill my dogs? There's frogs in there but they won't eat the larvea..any ideas??
Answers:
Get some mosquito fish, they will eat the larvae. In my county they are available for free from the mosquito abatement division.
go to your local hardware store they have posion for mosquito's but its safe for dogs look for the right one. they used it for after katrina in new orleans.
In my horse trough its just goldfish. They eat the skeeters and the larvae too. But I guess that is alot bigger than a dog dish. I got carried away.. sorry. Try talking to your vet or check out a local pet store for product that is safe. And dont forget to treat the dogs for heart worm. Good luck
Go to Amazon.com and type in "bird baths" or "fountains". You will get a long list of products. Included will be an algaecide that prevents mosquitos from hatching and is safe for wildlife.
pond fish/gold fish will eat the larvea.
you can buy mosquito dunks and throw them in the ponds. i use them regularly and it kills the larva, doesn't hurt the fish or frogs and my dog drinks from my water fall and she has had no problems.
