I want to buy a bird of paradise plant the one with the big orange flower is it better to buy one that has alr

Question:

Answers:
Your better to buy the younger plant. Bird of Paradise plants take a little while to settle. They kinda sulk sometimes. Make sure you put it where you intend keeping it.They take a season or so to flower. But once they get going they will steadily flower more and more each year. Mine is now 8years old, and has 7 flower heads. But your climate might be more tropical, so your probably get flower heads more quickly. Good Luck!

buy one that is healthy without a flower it should be full bodied and have a good color.

they are great i have a couple in my front garden
they take a couple of years to mature and bloom and to bloom they have to have warm and sunny place with some humidity or occational spritzing.. So it comes doen to your conditions and whether otr not they can tell you how old the younger plant is.
You can also buy the seeds from Thomson & Morgan.ca/.com and start from scratch. They are to be grown by a mature gardener(experienced) as very hard to start. But once they really get going(in a year or two) you have plants that you cultivated yourself that last well beyond any greenhouse plant you can buy!
