My toro lawn mower with briggs & stratton engine is puffing white smoke from muffler. fjw1952@yahoo.com?

Question:

Answers:
Try adjusting your idle and run needle valves. White smoke is usually vapor from unburned fuel while blue smoke is burnt oil.

it is running too rich. check air filter.
My hunch is that you had the mower on its side recently. If so, what you have is oil that seeped into the top of the engine and it is burning off, producing the smoke. Oil can also seep into the muffler in the same way and it too will cause white smoke until it burns off. It will stop by itself when all the oil is burned off.
If my hunch is wrong, clean the air cleaner element. If it still smokes and the carb has adjustable jets, turn the high speed needle out about an eigth to a quarter turn (counterclockwise).
Also, try draining the gas tank and adding fresh gas, you may have water in the gas.
