Can I plant a begonia outside?
Question:I got in from Sainsburys and it says its indoor plant but it dying because the flat gets really hot - can I plant it outside?

begonias are not hardy - the leaves and stems will die off at the first real frost - but you can lift the tuber and plant it again in spring.
it doesn't do well if it has too much sun, but some shade and it'll do fine.
sure you can plant it outside. I only know that plants from the nursery or outdoor plants like from places like Walmart or Home Depot survive outdoors. If you got it from a florist then it may not survive. The sad fact today is that apartments are too hot, and so is the outdoors. Surely you can try to plant it out there (near some shade), water it in the cool morning and give it some plant food and see what happens. Be sure to check that it gets the water it needs when outdoors.

I have got begonias in hanging baskets as you can grow them outside in the summer. Lift the tuber in winter and store in a dry cool place and replant in spring. I forgot to lift one of my tubers for a few winters and it came back the following summers, maybe because the winters have been mild. Some types can probably stand weather conditions better than others as my hanging baskets are in full sun which does not seem detrimental to my begonias.
Yes, but they are not frost hardy, so would need to brought in at the end of summer. Some begonias have corms (like bulbs), which can be dried off and stored, ready to start next spring. Others have tiny roots, that will continue growing through the winter, given protection.
