What exact bug or exact spider caused a huge web in my tree?

Question:

I get "tent caterpillars" in my pecan trees. They build the huge tent-like webs to protect themselves while they reproduce. I burn the ones I can reach with a propane torch - dont' worry the leaves grow back. If you can tear the webs apart with a stick, then birds will be able to eat the caterpillars.
Buy strips of trichogramma (sp?) wasp eggs from your local organic garden store and attach them to the branches of your tree. The wasps will lay their eggs in the bodies of the caterpillars, these eggs will hatch and eat the caterpillars from the inside out (a fitting demise), and you won't have any more tents.

My pet spider Sammie.
There are many species of spiders. Look around in your tree and see if you can find it. Its just trying to catch a meal.
If it's up in the branches and looks like a real thick spider web,it's gypsy moths. They can and will do major damage, probably even kill the tree.
I don't know what it looks like, but we have a small cottage in a rural area and a lot of summers we get tent caterpillars on our crabapple trees that make huge, white web-looking things throughout the trees. They're a parasite and they eat the leaves off the tree. It's best to get rid of them ASAP. Here's a link to what we had, maybe it's the same?
It may be army caterpillars or tent worms, they are also called. If you can reach the webs, take them down during the day, with that part of the branch, if it's not too far back toward the trunk. (Usually, they stay toward the ends of the branches) and burn them.
we used to get big caterpillar webs in our trees too..
Most likely not a spider. Generally in trees it is either tent caterpillars or fall army worms. Tent caterpillars love trees in the prunus genus which includes cherry and others, I have also seen a lot in Magnolias.
My bet is "Tent Caterpillars".
That's not a spider web! Someone toilet-papered your yard! Does the "web" have brown streaks?
