What can I do for my trees?

Question:Now that I have planted my 6 ft cedar trees in the backyard, what can I do to makesure they don't die on me? I water them lots and everyone says not to use fertalizer this soon cuz it will burn the roots. Any suggestions?

Answers:
Don't over water them and cause root rot. Over watering can cause your cedars to die. Roots need oxygen as much as your tree needs water. Water displaces oxygen in the root zone. Let your tree dry out between waterings. Use your finger to check the top 2-3" of soil around your cedars. If moist - wait. If dry - water. You should be watering about once a week. Deep infrequent watering is best.

add mulch from near the base to the drip line
