Royalty Crabapples in Zone 4?

Question:Can anyone tell me how fast a Royalty Crabapple will grow in Zone 4? (Anchorage, AK)

Answers:
Growth rate is a result of genetics, weather and environmental conditions. Pushing growth rates of trees with nitrogen fertilizers is never a good idea, but it can be fatal to Royalty Crabapple. This is a nice crabapple, but Royalty is highly susceptible to fire blight. Lush growth promoted by excess use of nitrogen fertilizers makes an ideal target for fire blight. If left to its own genetics, planted in full sun with adequate moisture you can expect 6-12" of growth per year once established.
