This Orange Tree needs your help?
Question:I bought (saved) an orange tree from an Oklahoma Wal-Mart, and brought it down to Palm Springs. Watered daily, even talked to it. It is still in the pot I got it in (about 1/4 gallon) the tree has one live stem left with one happy looking leaf, but the main part of the tree has died off. I keep it in a place where it gets one morning sun, which seems to have helped. Please any recommendations. I would like to someday eat delicious orngaes off it.

Take it out of the pot! Break the roots gently to loosen them, and place it in the ground, if possible, or a larger pot if not. Water every day, but lightly...a little water for a longer time instead of dumping a gallon on it... and filtered sun (not too hot) Some bone meal or fish meal, (Or miracle grow, if you have nothing else) Good luck!
You need to put it in a bigger pot in some good potting soil and water it with Miracle Gro.
I just hope it's not too late.
Tha't's a long way for a tree to travel, and change to different climate. I wonder if they have orange trees specifically for Okalahoma weather ?I think you're tree would love to be out of the pot in the ground. There shoud be a tag on the tree that will explain how wide, and deep the hole hole you put it in should be. Some sun is fine, once it's in the ground it won't need to be watered so often. Maybe once a week at first, only till it's established. After that use a hose to water slowly and deeply.
Most trees bought from a store are about at the point of needing to be put in the ground or re-potted. Citrus needs sandy type soil that is well drained - too heavy a soil (some potting soil stays too wet!) and you will find that, with frequent waterings, you will have root rot.
We seem to have one bug infestation after another in Florida - but I'd still say first make sure your plant has the right root conditions. Give it room to be the tree it was meant to be! :) Happy gardening!
