Could someone please tell me if I put in a Koi pond in my backyard if it will draw snakes?

It depends on where you live (if snakes are prevalent in your area) and how hot it gets in the summer. Snakes are attracted to water. When we first installed our pond a few years ago, we had a couple of snakes come around. But that was when it was real hot and dry out and we hadn't had any rain in quite a while. But I don't think it will be to the point of bother (unless you have poisonous snakes in your area), because a water feature always draws attention to many types of wildlife.

No it will not!
I can't figure out why it would. The one thing you should watch our for are herons or cranes. They'll eat every koi you have in one night.
Water will draw many creatures. Some will eat your fish. Snakes will not be "drawn" but could show up for a drink.
That would depend on where you live and what type of snakes might be in your area. Creating a koi pond means several nice shady plants that any snake would find inviting and depending on the type, it may also be a food source.
There are so many different types of preditors that it is difficult to decide if having a koi pond is a good idea. Not only snakes, cranes and herons, there are also crows, mink and raccoons! Sad thing to spend $15 + for a fish to go out in the morning and find fish skeletons along side your pond!! Please research your area before building the pond...good luck
dont know where you live, but i have had trouble with a snake in my pond. It ate the frogs at first and then went for the fish although the fish wernt big. It is a grass snake and I have tried to catch it but it is very elusive. As has been said, there are other preditors too so a net over the pond might help, although it didnt help my brother-in-law in N. Wales as he had a large snake-in-the-grass problem in the form of thieves who stole all his fish when he was out!
I did not put a koi pond because I have already some "black racer snakes" and I don't need them to feel more 'at home' with a koi pond...They freak me out !

Snakes like water in summer

Your koi pond will also attract frogs, and snakes love frogs.

Up to you !
I've had a koi pond for about seven years, and I have yet to see a snake, or any signs of snakes, anywhere near it.

Hope this helps.
