Question about a tree with fruit?
Question:I have a tree that is growing fruit that looks just like grapes when they fall from the tree they are a red color.
Does anyone have any idea what type of tree this is and is it poisonous?
Answers:
I have a sour plum tree that produces small, purple grape-like fruit with a reddish cast. These trees are quite prolific and tend to reseed all over the neighborhood.
Sour plum is an old fashioned tree that many nurseries aren't familiar with. If you strike out at the nursery, bring a sample to your local county extension agent instead (listed in the county section of your phone book under "county extension office"). I learned what my tree was from an elderly neighbor who was familiar with the species.
Sour plums do make excellent jam.
I don't have any idea. But grapes grow on vines...not trees.
Many red berries are poisinous so I wouldn't eat them if i were you.
I have no idea what the plant is, but I know that if you don't, DON'T EAT IT! Watch the birds and other critters. They'll probably avoid it like the plague. That's beside the fact. If you didn't plant it, don't harvest it.
Maybe its a plum tree. Sometimes they are really small if they are not thinned. Why don't you take some fruit to a local nursery (plant store). They can probably tell you what kind of fruit you have.
Do you have a picture of the tree? That would be very helpful in guessing what type of tree it is.
hard to tell without a picture. it could be a crabapple.do take some of the fruit to someone that knows.
Why not take a branch to your local garden center?
