Why have my tiger lillys grown froom pink to white over the years?

Question:I've grown tiger lillys that come up every year. the past two years the lillys have grown FIVE FEET TALL, yep five feet with 12 to 15 buds each. But.. they have turned white color instead of pink tiger, can you answer why so high and the color change?

Answers:
It is possible that they came up from seed from the original plants. Just like apples, a seed from one of the plants will not grow to be the same species as that from which it came. Let me search a little bit and see if I can find anything.

Here is a forum discussing the same problem:

If you read the last post, her last paragraph confirms what I said. I am pretty sure that the pink tiger lilies are "created" and what you are seeing is a plant from one of it's seeds, which reverted to the mother plant.

This website is really good for questions regarding gardening, if you do a search, you will probably find some more info.

Good luck!

Evolution.

Seriously. Obviously the lilies that are more suited to your patch are ginormous and white.

You've seen the definition of evolution in action- change in allele frequency in a population overtime.
My guess is that they don't have enough light. That's also why they grow so tall.
