Some tips. Do not use treated timber, bats are sensitive to all forms of wood preserver. If you already have bats, position your bat box at same height as the existing nest, always as high as possible, 18 feet upwards. Avoid facing due East or West. As stable as possible, totally wind and rain proof. Northern Prairie Wildlife Center at www.caves.org/conservancy/ikc/... have plans for free. Good luck and well done.
If its to get rid of mosquitoes and such, you'd be better off building a martin house. They like swallows and eat lots of bugs. Bats are mammals and subjest to all kind of diseases.
