Flies are hovering around my front door, help!?

Question:There isn't any trash or anything. It's a covered entry way and flies hover there every year, it drives me nuts. Isn't there something I can use on the walls and door to keep them away?

Answers:
best way to get rid of flies by the front door is take a crap ouside the backdoor

Have you tried spraying a bug spray on the surfaces? or maybe a cleaning solution such as diluted bleach or pinesol?
You could try flystrips. Or flies hate the smell of basil, lavender, citronella & lemongrass plants. I have Genovese basil growing by my door since it has a very strong smell & have had no more fly problems. Garlic also repels them but I've found it repels most humans too!
Place a little fan strategically at the entrance to blow the air at the location they gather. Also, there are some small little pumping devices the are placed usually in commercial restrooms. These little pump-like devices spray some kind of mist automatically. Fill them with the proper chemical to get rid of the pests. Consult a bug exterminating contractor to learn more about it.
I would start off by using the fly traps you can buy at Home Depot, Lowe's etc... they are kinda sticky so be careful when you put them up. Shouldn't take more than a day or two before they are covered with the flies. Another option (and this is a home remedy, not sure if it works or not, but I've seen it at several dining establishments) is to place a bag of water above the entry way, yes a bag of water. The ones I have seen are about the size of ziplock bags, then nailed up above window, door etc... But my opinion is to just buy the fly traps. Best of luck. JH
I would agree with the person who said smell would keep them away. A quick thing too is to wash with a solution of vinegar and water it cheap and easy and will help repel more than just flies. Also if you continue to have flies there is there a possibility that you have standing water or maybe a dumpster near by. They have to be coming from somewhere. Also yes flytraps work for the stubborn boogers who don't want to leave.
that's my two cents
good luck
Have you tried using skin-so -soft ?
Try placing a few, Martha Washington Geranium by your front door. I heard this story and we also had a problem with flies by our garage, so we put some by the garage door. Wow! The flies are gone by next morning. Guess they don't like a scent or color or something about it? Amazing!
