What fruit trees will grow well in the mountains?
Question:We live in the Rocky Mountains at about 9000 feet. We currently have Aspen and pine trees but would love to have some fruit trees. Any suggestions??

I live in Rocky Mountains at 4000 feet and apple is good here
and cherry
there may be others you can grow there
we have apricot and peach and plum and pear, not so good because the flowers usually get nipped from frost
you would likely have to cover them until frost is passed which where you are may be all the way to end of May to June~we can and do have frost until mid-June
It's a very short growing season
our trees are semi-dwarf
We are in Zone 4

Your local garden center will stock the varieties of fruit trees that grow where you live.
I also live in the mountains, and the 1st thing to check on is your climatic zone (what is your lowest temp-because citrus won't grow in low freeze zones. I grow apples, peaches, pears, apricots, cherries, & pluots (1/2 apricot 1/2 plum), I also have 2 walnut trees. But your local nurseryman or master gardener in your county could tell you what cultivar of each type of fruit does the best in your particular region. Good luck! I really enjoy my orchard.
