Difference between a Weed-Whacker and a trimmer...?
Question:This may be a dumb question, but is there any difference between a trimmer you use to made the edge of the lawn look clean and a Weed-Whakcer type thing you used to cut down weeds?
Answers:
Trimmers (weed whackers, "Weedeater", etc) are generally used horizontally to take down tall grass and weeds. They are generally fast-rotating heads with "strings" attached that do the cutting.
Edgers are generally used vertically to cut between the edge of the grass and the sidewalk, driveway, etc. to keep the edges looking sharp.
There are some convertible Trimmer/Edgers, and some tools that have a Trimmer head and an Edger head. We tried using a Trimmer and turning it 90 degrees to use it as an Edger, but the string just wouldn't stand up to the abuse very well.
Weed whacker has a blade and a trimmer a string or visa a versa
Weed wackers are more powerful...a trimmer is smaller
Weed-Whacker is a trade marked name. They come in different sizes (powers). Same with Weed-Eater. All these devices do basically the same thing. The only difference is the power, with the trimmer being the smallest (usually electric).
