What would cause 2 of my 6 coneflowers to wilt suddenly?

Question:They were growing great and suddenly overnight 2 of them wilted totally. It has been dry and hot and watering them each day the last few has helped a bit. I see no evidence of disease.

Answers:
First of all....coneflowers are fairly drought tolerant so I wouldn't worry about watering them everyday (especially if they are in the ground). Sounds to me like you are just plain overwatering. We grow many varieties of coneflower in 1 gallon containers on our nursery and we haven't had ANY rain in May. We irrigate every other day AT MOST. Coneflowers can be prone to root-rot, so just watch the water intake. Dig a little hole with your finger close to the stem of the plant. If its even remotely moist, don't water.

Moles could be eating the roots !
root rot or disease or possibly even a dog peeing on them.
if they are drying us and not turning brown right away, it could be spider mites...be cautious, quaratine the plant until you know for sure because mites really, really suck when your garden is totally infested
