How can i regroow my lawn?

Question:my lawn is dying how do i find out what's killing it.

Answers:
You can go to your local extension office and pick up a soil test kit, Follow the instructions in the kit and send it in and in a few weeks they should be able to tell you if something is wrong with your soil. You could also have a bug problem though. Check for several kinds of bugs including those on the leaf blades, in the thatch, and in the soil. If you find anything purchase a pesticide that will kill whatever you have.

Once you've found the problem and corrected it take a look at your yard and "grade" it. If 60% or more of the grass is still good and healthy then try seeding the weak spots and fertilizing the lawn. However, if it scores 40% or below it is much easier and cheaper to start over.

To do this, spray Round Up on all of the lawn and once it's dead remove it. Now would be a good time to check the slope and grade. If it needs changed for better drainage consult with a professional to make sure it is done correctly. Next, chose which species of grass will work best for your area and needs. Then you can reseed, sod, plug, or sprig your yard depending on your budget and how fast you want the replacement to grow in. Make sure to water regularly and if you go with sod, plugs, or sprigs make sure that they don't dry out. Sit back and enjoy.
