What is a moon flower? My friend just brough a couple to me ,,?
Question:So give me the back ground and how to care for it.
Answers:
It's like the Morning Glory only it blooms at night (by the light of the moon). It likes shade but plenty of light and a wall or lattuce to climb. It needs water but not a lot and a place to grow where you will see and smell it at night. I used to have it outside my window where I used to live and I loved that flower! What a great gift!
Well cared for, you will have some beautiful plants that bloom late in the afternoon and at night. Hence the name "moonflower". The moonflower reqires no special care. Just plant it in a well drained area with lots of fertile soil and mulch and give it a trellis to grow on. As the vine grows and produces seeds, save them, dry them and replant again.
The only Moon flower I've seen is a type of Datura also known to farmers as jimson seed and grows on waste land. The seed pods and whole plant are very dangerous if ingested. Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/datura... and see if your plant resembles the one shown.
The first poster is correct about the morning glory. It is a member of the family. Beautiful flowers bloom at night and flowers as big as your face. All white.
A beautiful and intriguing plant like every one says. On hot summer days when the air cools at sunset, your eyes can detect them move as they open - wow! RScott
