Reviving Grape Vines?
Question:My home has a large backyard "orchard" and within it are 2 rows of grapes. They were planted back in the '20s and are strung up on wire fences -- 16' long for the entire time. Now they are rather woody and don't produce as much, how can I revive these? Michigan

How about trying this: Prune off a bunch of the branches and stick them in potting soil and vermiculite, keep them moist and they will root, giving you brand new plants. I know a Master Gardener who has a vineyard he got from using this practice. Good luck!
I cut my grape vine right down to the ground, and it came back really nicely with lots of fresh growth. That being said, it has not produced yet and that was two years ago (I live in zone 3 if that helps). I am hopeful that I'll start getting grapes again this year or next.
My moms has a couple of 100 year old grapevines at her place in Oregon. I have to cut back to main branchs each year. you can really cut these guys way back, I mean ALL new growth from this year and last can be removed in the fall after the leaves fall. This will encourage the growth of new, fruiting vines.
