What can I plant in my flower bed?

Question:I'm trying to find out what exactly I can plant.. I know that most of it's done in the spring, but what can I plant now?? Thanks in advance!!

Answers:
Anything that your heart desires that your local sellers are selling now. It's too late to plant seeds, but anything that's blooming at your local home depot or garden center should do okay. Talk with them and see which ones do well in your area, and then determine the ones that you love. Don't go for names, go for colors and textures, whatever pleases your eye.

you can plant anything and everything you want to, just stick it in the ground, water it and see if it lives!
Depends on where you live. Also seeds or plants? If plants, anything still left to buy that looks healthy. If seeds, read the back of the packages and get what has the least amount of days until germination and/or blooms.
Talk to a nursery professional at your local garden center.
They will ask you, how much sun does the spot get, perennials or annuals, how much water can they get ...etc. Once you answer these, they can show you what is available.
Dont buy your plants at Wal-mart or Home depot type places, they usually buy cheaper plants and you will get cheaper performance.
And yes, Miracle grow does work!!
If you're talking about annuals, I plant them all summer long. Just be sure to water a lot at first to get them settled in. And don't forget to feed. I just planted marigolds last weekend (ground and potted). They need lots of sun though.
Seasonal seeds of your choice, keeping in mind, the seeds that can adapt to the present season.
you could plant some perrinials & some annuals. perrinials will come back every year. annuals have to be planted every year
lilys roses putinas irisis only if ur not alergic to them
There are a lot of things you can plant even though spring is just about over. I live in central Texas - very hot summers - and even here there are beautiful plants that can be put in the ground after it's 100 degrees and they will take root and bloom.

I would be better able to answer your question if I knew the state you lived in, whether it was near the coast, whether the spot you are wanting to plant in is full sun, part sun or shady, and whether you live in a place with high or low rainfall (this determines in part whether your soil is alkaline or acidic). Plant choices depend on all of these factors and more.

I would recommend that you locate your county's agricultural extension agent (online of in the phone book) and call them. Most of these offices answer gardening and landscaping questions. They will probably have some handouts to send you and can give you information that will fit your region of the country. Don't get discouraged and you can have a beautiful garden!
Hi Kat, If you want a herbaceous bed with mixed COLOURS of perennials my suggestions would be:

(nb. Herbaceous means the plant dies down in winter and virtually disappears but grows back next spring AND Perennials means the plant lives and flowers year on year.)

PURPLE - Salvia 'East Friesland'
MAUVE - Erysimum 'Bowles Mauve'
YELLOW - Solidago 'Golden Rod'
ORANGE - Crocosmia
BLUE - Centaurea Montana Cornflower
CHOCOLATE - Cosmos Bidens
WHITE - Heuchera (has the advantage of deep burgundy leaves)
PINK - Geranium Maculatum Chatto

also:

VARIOUS - Astilbe / Sweet William / Aquilegia / Lupin

All these plants can be bedded in now so long as you water them in well and continue to water until you get plenty of rain. Next year you only need to water them if you get long dry periods.

Have fun.
