Has anyone ever grown mint?

Question:if so how long does it take, does it prefer sunlight or shade and also once sprouted would it do better if i transplanted.

Answers:
first of all, grow it in a pot...if you dont it will be the worst decision you could of ever made!
when its first planted the best way to keep it really healthy and loads! of water and a even balance of sun and shade:)

good luck!

Watch out! If you are going to grow mint I suggest you have it in a pot! Once it takes hold it grows like mad and you cant get rid of it! My mint likes to be in a part of the garden that gets both sun and shade through out the day!

Nothing like fresh mint in a chilled glass of water! Or fresh mint sauce with roast lamb!

Good luck!
My mom had it in her back yard for years; part sun part shade where it was. it grew like crazy and multiplied every year... it was great with tomatoes and cucumbers w/ italian dressing and add a couple of whole mint leaves. mmmm
Don't put the mint in the ground. It grows like a weed, and its very invasive. It dosen't take very much time at all to grow- it grows very quickly. And it likes sun.
Lindy is right, it grows like a weed.
You won't have any problems with it in a pot unless it goes to seed.
Once mint is established, it will grow through concrete! I suggest you contain it. FYI, when you make mint jelly, it will turn out pink--the commercial stuff has green food colouring added because everyone expects mint to be green. So just add your own colouring unless you want the pink. Whenever I plant mint anywhere, I always end up pulling up most or all of it, because it just takes over--so beware!
Wow the plant willl grow crazy on you. My father and sister both grow it. It;s gone in to neighbor's yards.. I know in CT you can not grow non evasive plants like Bamboo does the same thing..

Great plant to grow.. but pot it.
I got one small piece of mint from a neighbor over a year ago. I have mint now everywhere. I have shared it and shared it. You will literally have to thin it out on occasion. It smellsl soooo good though. Don't forget to put some in your iced tea. Yummy.

The easiest thing to grow I have ever found. You can transplant it any time you want too. It will not hurt it. It loves shade or sun. I have giant leaves that seem to enjoy being next to my hosta plants.
I grow spearmint and chocolate mint. Both of these types are invasive; they spread via underground roots and are very very aggressive. I have often uprooted an entire bed of mint, only to leave a few root fragments behind and the mint returns. They are best grown in a bed by themselves or in large pots. There are advantages, though--mint smells so good!
