What to do with a tree covered in posion ivy?
Question:i have a tree on my property that has been completely taken over by posion ivy. I cannot even see what kind of tree it was. the base of the tree is about 3 inches thick but i dont want to have to handle it to cut it down... What would be the best way to get rid of it? My husband wants to burn it but i think that would be a bad idea because if someone breathes the smoke they might also get some oils with it. I also dont want to use a poison that will kill the sourounding lawn. Any suggestions much apreciated.
Answers:
Place your hands in plastic trash can liners and use elastic bands to secure them. Get a pair of pruning clippers (or wire clippers). Go to the base of the tree and locate the ''trunk'' of the vine. Cut all the truncks leading up the tree. Now walk away and let nature work on the problem. By next sping you will be able to don more bags and remove the larger pieces that still remain. Take the bags off being careful not to touch the outside surfaces. As an added measure, use a waterless hand cleaner such as ''Go - Jo'' to remove the ivy's invisible oils from the tools and your hands.

Two words. Round-up.
spraay it with that poison ivy spray then take it off make sure ur covered tho cuz it itchz like crazy
i think, use a strong weed killer, it won't kill the grass, only the weeds and poison ivy
Cut all the tap roots connected to the ground on the ivy. Within a couple of weeks it should die off and you will find all the root connections you missed
Don't burn it. You need to consult a professional, in a case that severe. Do not try and do this one yourself.
chop it down don't touch the tree or you'll get it and call 311 and have some one come to yur house and cut the tree down
People don't generally give it much thought, but not every human is allergic to poison ivy, but I still wouldn't want to take a chance.
I would recommend going to your local gardening store and purchasing a good pair of shears and some disposable gloves (maybe even an extra pair) and try to be as delicate as possible when cutting away the branches.
Hope this helps.
I had it growing abundently in a tree and my garage. I thought I had a pretty vine. My cousin had a cow. She said don't weed eat that the dust will make you break out. We used Roundup and sprayed it only on the posion ivy, don't spray by the roots of your tree. It did not damage my tree though a year later it was struck by lightening and died totally unrelated.
the best thing you can do is get it profesionally removed that way you dont get ivy on you and you dont ruin the rest of your garden i mean its worth wasting that money on it right b/c its better than getting ivy on you or a family member
I'm not allergic to poison ivy - I'm sure there are others out there who aren't. See if you can find someone to help you out. If not, when you're done frying something dump the grease directly on the roots of the vine. It should kill it. You may have a small spot with no grass for a while, but if you're careful it'll only be a small spot.
Go to an Hardware store and buy Round Up and spray it on the bottom to kill the roots of the poison Ivy. If you burn some grass it better then getting infected yourself, grass will grow back.
use gloves that are long on your arms. were things like long kapriss and sleves that are a little longer then your elbow. ( to prevent it on you skin).good luck!
DO NOT BURN THE IVY. Buring IVY creates a cloud which is even more iritating to the skin than of you simply rolled around it. Local Lawn and Garden stores will have a specialized IVY poison. Use this and once the IVY dies while fully protected begin clearing it fromt the tree. Note however dead IVY can still causes rashes so really cover up. If this seems like too much trouble you can call around for a tree service that will remove the IVY but it can be pricey especially beause it is poison ivy.
the best thing you can do and please belive me you you just chop the vine at the end of the tree and it will die but dont touch it even after a year the vine can still contain the oil that can still give you a rash
