I am about to move into a new house & every thing is good except the yard has very little grass growing...?
Question:The whole back yard & front yard is shaded by trees & I was wondering what kind of grass & flowers grow good and/or fast in the shade? Thanks a bunch! :)

Here's a site for growing grass in shady areas:

Different plants require different degrees of shade ranging from dense shade to dappled or partial shade. You need to study and understand what kind of light you have to achieve the optimum conditions for what you want to grow. You need to also consider that a plant which needs full, dense shade to survive the summer in a hot southern state will do just fine in partial shade in a cooler northern location. Instead of trying to change existing conditions, match your plants to the site. It's not only easier on the environment but also a lot less work for you. Most woodland plants will benefit from a rich soil and an environment that insures good air circulation, water and nutrients.
Impatience are really good shade flowers! I just planted Astilbe in a shady spot in my garden. It gets a little more sun during the summer, but none in the winter. visit www.americanmeadows.com and I think they have a shade section. It varies what they have by the time of the year, so visit every few months for a new selection. or www.dutchbulbs.com. They have lots of stuff. Either way, they will give you a description, picture and what kind of light the plant does well in and the zone. So you can choose plants and flowers that will do well in shade. You'll be able to decide which garden zone you live in from the sites too. I'm in zone 6, but I used to live in zone 9 for instance. 9 is in California and some southern states. I don't know about grass, but I know that when I went to home depot, they sold grass seed for different locations, shade, sun, part shade, like that. I was lucky when we moved into our new home. It has about 8,000 square feet of beautiful lawn. Takes us HOURS to mow it though and most is on a slope! The clippings don't fit in our trash can, we have to fill up the back of the pickup truck and take it over to the garden waste recycle site. good luck with your garden!
A fescue would be a good grass seed for you. Hosta flourish in shaded areas. Lilies would be ok too. Bleeding hearts too. Any groundcover would be good in shade. Such as Creeping Myrtle.
Catherine shes asking about seeds for growing GRASS not FLOWERS!
