Type of bush?
Question:I am needing a fast growing evergreen bush that gets around 6' high or so. I've seen these leafy type evergreens that look like holly, they have dark green leaves that are somewhat jagged, and red berries on them. Does anyone know the name of these & how fast they grow? Or know of a better bush? Thanks. OH.I live in Missouri, I think thats zone 7 or 9?

American Holly or Nelly Stevens Holly may be what you are seeing. The Nelly will get bigger, and has a darker color. It will grow faster than the American. They are normally pyramidal shaped. Burford holly would be the one to use if you prefer a hedge. We trim our burford 5 times a yr. they grow fairly fast. Im sure it would reach 6 ft but it would take years You may also think about photenia, it grows much faster..

Sounds like a holly bush. slow growing though plus if you plant one you will need to check out the area to see if there are other ones in the area. The palnts do not produce the berries if the bee population does not pollinate the shrubs with in a 1 mile radius of each other. IT IS TRUE!
Try a butterfly bush that attracts butterflies or even snowball bush or what they call Hydreangeas. They grow tall, the flowers can be dried and used for wreaths, floral arrangements, etc. They are fast growing when kept fed regularly and maintained. Tall and bushy.
Bamboo bush is fast growing, but it takes over fast unless you keep it trimmed, it is tall and thin. Trellis rose bushes are nice and move fast in our area.
This definitely sounds to me like a holly bush. My daughter has one near her driveway. They are jagged and very hardy plants. They withstand sun and harsh winters.
