What kind of flower shink in the day and bloom at night?

*Moonflower, (Ipomea alba) a white , night-blooming Morning Glory

* Datura/Jimson Weed - most common being D. metel & D. meteloides , with 6-10" white, trumpet-shaped flowers. There are also yellow,purple & apricot-pink double ones.They open ~ 7pm & close up ~ 9-10am . On acloudy day, they stay open longer . They have a Magnolia-like fragrance. The first 2 grow easily from seed ,& reseed themselves. Datura suaveolens has a much stronger, sweeter fragrance .Slow, but worth the extra effort.

* Angel Trumpets, (Brugmansia ) the Datura's close relatives. Thet are tropical or subtropical shrubs . They have similar flowers, slightly larger, that hang down , unlike the erect Datura. The most common, & reliable one is the apricot Brugmansia arborea. They have woody stems, so you can store them by just cutting to a convenient size & bringing them in befiore frost . If you let them go semi-dormant , they will require very little water(1-2 times/month) and light. The scent is heavenly . It's similar to Datura, but much stronger , & with some elements of jasmine & stephanotis in addition to the Magnolia scent. They can be kept any size , but I think they make a better show if let grow to at least 6' x6'(2-3' for the winter) . Last fall , I counted 84 blossoms on mine , a 2-yr old plant , on one day.
