Glue traps, but be prepared... they are inhumane
Get you a couple or rat terriers they are fantastic rat killer and all round great dogs so are jack russell either one will get the job done.Plus you gain two really loyal friends.

We've used the sticky traps for mice and the industrial strength black ones work well, but the white ones were a joke.

Trap one and record the sound of it panicking. Play the sound back. The other rats will vacate.
A 22 caliber rifle or pistol loaded with rat shot (kind of a miniature shotgun shell) works great and is tons of fun.
Get a big tom cat.
Get some cats! Our cats catch rats & mice, and we don't even have a rodent problem. (none that we know of, anyway) Occasionally, they catch a mole or a lizard as well.
