How do I keep birds off my red hot poker plants?

Question:We have two healthy 'red hot poker' plants in our front garden. Every year when they have bloomed birds sit on the plants pecking at the seeds (? after nectar) and they end up looking sad and bedraggled. Any ideas on what I could do??

Answers:
leave the birds ... its nature

get yourself a cat, that'll sort the buggers out.
Cut a cardboard cut-out of a hawk or bird of prey and hang it over your plants, that should drive them away.
use a real red hot poker -- they wont sit on that
leave them alone , that's what they are there for. the flowers are finished. you don't need the seeds (if you want more plants split the ones you have) and leave the birds to enjoy the seeds.
I would try putting a bird feeder up near there with some good sunflower seed in it. Offer them something they would like better while your pokers are in bloom, so maybe they will not be tempted as much to feed from them.
we get some bird netting and cover the plants. every year we get a lot of birds. they break a lot of the flowers off our tomatoes and strawberries.
i have this plant which i planted for the birds
