Bird of Paradise Flower?

Question:How old does a bird of paradise plant have to be before it blooms. I have one that is about 3' tall, how old would you say it is? It was given to me by my aunt who bought it at a yard sale and didn't ask any questions about it.

Answers:
I think it would take about 4-5 years before it will bloom.

Here is a website for more info.

It blooms from September to May and sounds old enough to flower, but could be anywhere from just a few months to many years old since they stop growing between 3-4' tall.
Consider yourself most blessed. I've tried propagating them from seed in optimum conditions and have had no success. Aren't they something?
I have a large one that I have had for years.

They grow about 3 to 4 ft tall and takes 5 years for it to bloom.

If you then move it to another location in the yard and disturb the roots it will take another 5 years before it will bloom.

I guess that is why they are expensive in the florist industry.
