What is causing my grass to have brown spots the size of a coffee can-3-4 year old fescue lawn?
Question:
Answers:
this time of year, I'd say either grubs or brown patch disease.
Brown patch is a fungal infection and it can be treated with antifungals that are available in lawn and garden centers. Daconil is a trade name that I know of.. follow instructions on treating for brown patch. Fungal issues are more profound when the weather is warm and the humidity is high. further- if you are watering your grass at night, stop that. early morning is best.
it could also be the start of grub activity. You can diagnose grubs pretty easily by pulling upward on the affected turf. if it comes up easily and you see the grubs in the soil below, you pretty much know what's up. Treat with triazicide or grub-ex.
someone mentioned animal waste.. it could be.. sprinkle garden gypsum on the affected areas and water well.
Good luck!
do you have a pet who goes to the bathroom out there?
There are many things that can be causing this.
Google (or Yahoo) "turf grass disease" or "fairy circle lawn"
You could also go to your local lawn center with pictures for some advice.
Really impossible to answer the question without seeing the grass or having more info such as fertilizing watering and where you live pets etc.. Best bet is to take a piece that has good and bad grass on it to local lawn and garden center. They need a piece on the edge as some diseases move out from a central point.
If you wanted to just try something an antifungal treatment would be where I would start.
might also be grubs, you can go to home depot and buy some spray for diseases think it is called lawn disease control. if that does not help, probably grubs, them you can kill with sprays, also.
Good luck!
I would say sugs or grubs.
