Has anyone had a pool put up or put in or a fence put up without a permit?

Question:If so, what happened? Any horror stories? I'm considering skipping the permit and taking a chance. Any advice?

Answers:
You can maybe get away with Not getting a permit if you can get the job done quick. If you linger around on the project for weeks and weeks, the city will catch you, but if you do the job quick, they will think the pool or fence or whatever has been there all along...good luck and screw city hall!

all you have to do is call your boro building and ask front desk. it all depends on how big the pool is and i put a med one up with pump few yrs ago but i didnt have to have one. and i think it depends on where you live as well. good luck
Do it!! I had both put up with no permit and nothing happened except... I saved money by not getting one!! LOL! My city gets enough taxes out of me and that's all they get! :)
I put up a fence without a permit. The only thing to worry about is your neighbors. The town I live states that the fence can't be no more than six feet high but can go directly on the property line. "MAKE SURE IT'S YOUR PROP. LINE." No permit necessary in some states and town/cities.
You need a permit to put a pool up?? Or do you need one only for under ground pool. Anyway we put up an above ground pool in 2000 and we've had no probs
I'm a real estate attorney. My client put in a pool without a permit and was caught. The county ordered him to remove the pool, fill the hole, and re-sod his backyard before he could apply for a permit. Luckily, the judge said that was excessive and reduced my client's penalty down to a few hundred dollars. The county then approved the pool as it had been built.

The county was shocked. My client was the first person ever to challenge one of their code enforcement rulings and win. Everyone else had previously been made to remove the pool.

Even though my client "won," he still lost. My fee was about $6,000.00 and the suit lasted 9 months. The permit would have cost him $50.00 and about 30 minutes of time to fill out the paper work.

I'd LOVE for you to take the chance .
