What's the best weed killer to use or could i make one using a mixture of household products ?
Question:
Answers:
for killing everything, a good weed killer is something like roundup (glysophate), but it does kill everything. For weed killing in grass, weed-b-gone (2,4-D) is a good one. It kills broadleaf plants, but not grass.
Weed it yourself... Its better... Why ? You protect your soil from any chemicals..
You can purchase large bags of salt cheaply from home supply stores. Salt is a good week killer for areas in which you do not want any plant growth at all such as sidewalks but is not a good weedkiller where you also have plants which you want to keep growing. The best answer there isn't a chemical at all but this special type of torch on a wand. You just walk around tourching the weeds you want gone. There isn't any health risk but do this at a time when conditions are not right for fire to spread such as after watring the yard.
Tri-mec it is a blend of three powerful weed killers. Weed-b-gone works too but Tri-mec has worked best for me. Be sure to use it when the weeds are actively growing (temps in the 80's and recently watered) for best results. Also, I have found applying in the evening works better than morning but I don't know why. Keep it off any desired broadleaf plants (grass is not a broadleaf so its safe on the lawn)
Try not to spray any weed killer on windy days - it will blow onto the desirables you didn't want to kill.
Mix one part cider vinegar with one part water. Works well, just takes a little longer than what is commercially available.
Vinegar.
The best and safest way that I know to get rid of weeds is to
lay down more grass seed, this method will eventually drown out and prevent most weeds from growing.
