Hi!!
I live in MO, so I'm farther south than you, but mine don't always come up right away. When we lived in MA (just south of the NH border), it wasn't abnormal for them to start greening up until later. They were thought of more as a Fall flower. Nothing much started flowering until around June. That even includes "spring" flowers. Just have patience. Remember, it warms up later up north.
One of the things I've learned from gardening (I'm probably an "advanced beginner" in gardening LOL), is -- don't pull anything up, even if it looks dead!! It usually eventually comes up. Also -- patience works wonders!! (Patience is hard, I know!! LOL)
Good luck!! You'll get used to when things come up.
Same prob same area. Bought a ton of mums for my yard and the church yard. The ones that were planted in a sheltered area of the church grounds survived. (2ft.tall and wide) The rested didn't. The ones in my yard that were planted in the open with no protection and only one survived and it's struggling as we speak. The best you can do is as soon as they go on sale again is buy more, plant them a little deeper and maybe put some kind of protection over them like glass domes (Glass Jars).
