Just curious about this question. Is it best to water grass during the day or could I water in the evening?
Question:I have been wondering about this for awhile. I always heard that for the health of the grass to water it during the day but I see folks watering their yards in the evenings too. Which is better or does it Really matter? Thanks for the replys

It does matter, if you want a good lawn. Water early in the morning, when less water is lost to evaporation and wind drift. In early morning, the air is cooler and there is less wind. Watering during the day you can get a lot of evaporation and lose some of the water you are applying. The next best time to water is in the evening. Though my opinion is if you water at night often and the air is really still, the moisture on the plants can stay on it and may cause some fungal diseases.
Also, water deep and less frequent! If you water just a little everyday, it will cause the roots to stay close to the surface and therefore the lawn will not be as strong. If you water deep and less frequent, the roots will grow deep in the soil and it will be a strong lawn. An inch of water a week is usually a good rule of thumb when watering.
Night time, water evaporates faster during the day.
well, if you do it when there's sunshining very hot, the water will evaporate. i dont know i dont think it matters
Evening or early am is best. I prefer evening so the sun doesn't burn it..and it has allll night to drink up the water before the sun heats the surface again.
Actually the coolest part of the day is best. Hence, evening is better than mid-day.
Its best to water your yard during the evening (or night if possible) because if you water your yard during the day the sun will evaporate it more.
Water when it's cool out which is early mornings or evenings.watering it in the middle of the day is the worst especially if it's very sunny and hot out. It can make your grass worse and cause it to burn.sorta like putting suntanning oil on and laying in the sun.always do it when it's cool out.
Both are okay and i see my daddy do both and he's a smart guy so i guess it woudn't matter it might also depend when u have time
That depends where your live. If in the south, only water in the evening as water on the grass at noon can actually boil and kill the leaves. The best is in the earlier part of the morning before the sun gets too hot, or in the evening so it will be absorbed before fungus or mold set in. Only water for a short time, 10 to 15 minutes, longer and the water just runs off. Grass is a shallow rooted plant and too much water is a waste.
at night to water in the day time if the sun is a hot one it can burn the grass.
Its better to water in the evening when it is cooler and the sun doesn't soak up the water that you are trying to use.
Your water gets a chance to soak into the soil if you water in the evening or early morning. Daytime water loses some to evaporation before it gets to the grass' roots.
Similar reason to water plants in the evening and morning, plus, the water droplets adhering to the leaves and blooms can act as tiny magnefying lenses, creating little burn spots on tender plant tissue.
I have always been told that 4:00 AM is the best time to water. If you don't have an automatic watering system, that would be a problem, however. Otherwise, I would water in the early evening.
Morning because morning watering helps to prevent lawn diseases that can be caused by watering at night when the lawn doesnt dry fast enough.
before the sun rises
During the summer, you do not want to water your grass during the day. The sun can actually burn the grass when it is wet (the water droplets intensify the sunlight, and the evaporation is too quick).
We used to install sprinkler systems, and always set the timers for evening, overnight, or early morning. Whatever was most convenient for the customer.
Personally, early morning is the most practical. It would water everything well without burnout, but the soil would not stay wet for too long.
Many times, it depends on the grass and the conditions. I find it is best to water early in the morning ( 1 inch twice a week)so the grass can dry and thus prevent growth of disease in damp grass at night.
Then, of course, water at night, if that's when you can water, is better than no water at all!
Water in the early morning just before dawn.
That prevents excess evaporation and limits your potential for fungal disease.
Watering in the evening and leaving the grass wet overnight is likely to cause a fungus.
At night...if you can set your sprinkler system at 4-5 AM...When the humidity of the night is almost gone because the day will start.
It is good also at that time because the plant are all fresh up for the hot day coming...
Never water grass or plants during the day, you are wasting water, your time, your $ and you are less effective
Early morning is best because if you water at night the water is on the plants more and there is a greater chance of disease or fungus growth.
