What kind of fertilizer is this?
Question:I was walking around a vacant house I was interested in purchasing. The owner, prior to my visit, informed me that the house was broken into and vandalized. Well inside the floor was convered with potting soil and their were round light brown pellets, probably the size of gum balls. They were everywhere. On the bag of them it read "_____roton" but I couldn't make out the first part of the work. It said it was made in Germany. Basically I believe that the house was being used to grow drugs in. There were added wires in the ceilings for lights and ventalation holes cut into the walls and ceilings.
Does anyone know what that fertilizer is used for or what the full name is?
Answers:
It could be a growing medium, like Seramis, clay granules for growing plants hydroponically. I live here in Germany, and can only find one supplier of these things. The name for clay granules in German is: "Blahton". " ton" being German for clay. One of the brand names is "Lecaton". So I am guessing that these plants were grown hydroponically in these clay granules. These clay granules do come in different sizes, depending on the size of the plants to be grown in this medium.
If this stuff is a fertiliser, then it should be soluble in water, especially in warm water.
I think you have two things going on. One, your grow room scenario works for me. Two, the brown pellets sound like paint balls. Paint ballers aka vandals seem to go together with abandoned buildings. Who knows, the skills they're learning could help keep them safe in Iraq. RScott
I would call and ask your local nursery or bring them a sample. Holly tone has very small brown pellets. I remember buying some lime in pellet form. I think they were brown, but I cannot remember.
Good Luck
Not knowing what the bag says, but the unusual size( not normal for plant fertilizer) of the pellets indicate a possibile slow-release product. Are you sure they are not terra-cotta water retention balls?
A Mr. De Roton did some Tobacco disease research, but I do not find any reference to the name in fertilizers.
Unfortunately, if you cannot read the manufacturer on the bag you might be out of luck.
