What can I do about my zucchini plants? The leaves have tiny holes in them.?
Question:The snow peas and green beans are growing great but why do my zucchini always have problems?
Answers:
Aphids only feed on young leaves and buds. I never saw aphids on my squashes. I think you have Japanese beetles, or June bugs
Examine your plants. And the best thing I found, since my garden is small, is that if I squish the eggs or bugs leaving them on the leaves, the others avoid the plant. They don't like to smell death of their own...
If you are growing organic, make sure you give it a boost of nutrients with compost, fish emultion, bone/blood meal... That way they'll make it through the bug season
Maybe you have afid bugs. Go to Homedepot and get some Ladybugs in a bag. They will eat the afids. Or spray the plants with an insecticide.
Sounds like some little bug really likes your zucchini. Unless it really starts to get eaten away you are best to just leave it because the alternative is utilizing pesticides, and we all know what wonderful stuff that is. Look in your local phone book for the telephone number of your local cooperative extension and they may be able to give you information on an all natural solution to your problem. I cannot tell you what insect is causing the damage because i have no idea what country or part of the countrty you are from.
Get some Sevin Dust at Home Depot and dust the leaves. Something is eating them. The Sevin Dust will kill whatever it is.
